Under this grove every Sunday of the year, since the Middle Ages, a typical market is held, which sells all kinds of goods that you can imagine, attracting thousands of people from all over Galicia.

If we want to take a rest from our trip through the area of Iria, one of the best places in Padron is “Paseo do Espolón,” a walkway located in the centre of Padron’s old town. Covered by shade on either side and presided by a monument of two of the most important writers to date at each end.

At the north end we find the statue of the poetess Rosalia de Castro, made in 1957 by José María Mateos, which was funded by a Padron Community Association in Uruguay as the statue itself explains. At the southern end of the walkway, we have the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Camilo Jose Cela, which was made by Ferreiro Badia in 2003
